Dr. Nasharudin Mat Isa is President & CEO of the Wasatiyah Centre for Peace, an organisation based in Malaysia focusing on regional and global peace-activism, in addition to being a panel member of the Consultation and Corruption Prevention Panel of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (2017/2019 term).
He has spoken as well as participated in various conferences, seminars as well as roundtables in his capacity formerly as the Executive Chairman & CEO of the Global Movement of Moderates Foundation, and as a member of the Deradicalisation Panel under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Malaysia.
He was also a two-term Member of the Malaysian Parliament, from 1999-2004 and 2008-2013, in addition to prior lecturing stints at the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) respectively.
Among his notable works are Between Universal and Cultural-Relativity of Human Rights: An Islamic and Malaysian Perspective (2016) – winner of the National Book Award 2016’s Best Socio-Cultural Book Category. He is also the author of Between Moderation and Extremism: Wasatiyyah As A Peace Solution (2013) as well as The Movement of Moderates: Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers (2018), not to mention various other papers presented in forums locally, regionally and internationally.
Dr. Nasharudin holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Islamic Jurisprudence from the University of Jordan, an MA in Comparative Law from the International Islamic University of Malaysia and a PhD in Education (Leadership) at the Awang Had Salleh Graduate School of Arts and Science, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).
In 2016, Dr. Nasharudin Mat Isa received the Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang award from the Sultan of Pahang, which carries the title Dato’.
